A high quality Marine, Industrial and Engineering Service Group

With a shipyard based on the River Mersey, a river with proud maritime traditions, Cammell Laird has built up a longstanding enviable reputation for excellent workmanship, innovation and impeccable safety standards.

Our business specialisation is in the commercial repair/upgrade, build and conversion of all ship types, heavy fabrication/engineering and military refit. We offer the full array of shipyard skills and services, making us a one stop solution for all marine services.

The shipyard is located within a major marine services "cluster" around Merseyside and has immediate and direct access to specialist support services, Classification societies and port state authorities.

On any project, no matter how large or small, whilst respecting the customer's commercial position we encourage a "partnership" approach within our project team. This ethos is reflected in the large amount of repeat business conducted by the company.

The combination of extensive facilities, the flexibility and motivation of the workforce and the commitment of the management, all supported by ISO 9001:2008 Quality Assurance Approval and ISO 14001 and 18001 Certified Management systems; ISPS security compliance and a proactive Health and Safety system, ensures ship owners that they receive a First Class service.

Heavy Fabrication

Cammell Laird has one of the best and most competitive heavy fabrication facilities in the engineering industry, including having one of the largest modular construction halls in Europe and an extensive network of workshops.
Importantly, the company also has easy access to the sea being based on the River Mersey on the west coast of the United Kingdom. From here we can offer to build both large and small structures and modules for delivery by ocean going barge.

All our work meets the requirements of Classification Societies such as Lloyd’s Register and DNV GL.

Renewable Energy

Cammell Laird has invested over £10m in infrastructure upgrades to transform it into one of the UK’s prime hubs for the offshore wind farm sector.

The investment has seen Cammell Laird used as the base port for the construction of the Gwynt y Mor wind farm in the Irish Sea. The base port area is some 14 hectares (32 acres) and it is from this area that the foundations for 160 wind turbines were successfully pre-assembled, loaded and shipped to the farm location some 18km off the coast.

Civil nuclear

Our track record and capabilities make Cammell Laird your ideal heavy fabrication partner in support of the civil nuclear programme. Our developed quality and project control processes and systems can be applied to civil nuclear applications. We have demonstrated this through project studies for off-site modular fabrication, systems outfit, integration, testing and commissioning. We have storage facilities that allow us to hold modules until they are needed on site.

Defence Services

Cammell Laird has won two 10-year contracts to support the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) for 10-year period from March 2019 to June 2028. The deal, known as the Future In Service Support (FISS) contract, will see Cammell Laird maintain nine ships of the RFA flotilla.

The agreement is written in a way that forms a partnership between the MoD and Cammell Laird as well as other key suppliers and this partnership encourages close co-operation of all parties thus producing innovation at all levels. A previous contract has resulted in not only cost savings but an increase in the availability of the ships to perform their operational duties. The long term nature of the agreement has allowed Cammell Laird to make significant investments in people, facilities and tools thereby helping to produce a more efficient and better value service for the UK taxpayer.

Cammell Laird has built a network of more than 2,000 suppliers as it steps up its bid to build a cutting-edge warship. The Leander, Cammell Laird’s offering designed by BAE Systems, will be marketed by BAE Systems to international customers.

Global Reach

Increasingly, Naval Auxiliaries need to remain on location and not return to UK for maintenance periods and upgrades. Cammell Laird has an alliance with Keppel Shipyard Ltd, a member of one of the largest ship repair and marine engineering companies in the world. This allows Cammell Laird to carry out work in overseas locations and to date we have conducted well over a hundred maintenance periods across 40 countries accounting for some 5000 tasks in total overseas.
