Company Information
Summary:
AAM delivers POWER that moves the world. AAM designs, engineers and manufactures Driveline technologies to support electric, hybrid and internal combustion Drivelines. AAM is bringing the future faster for a safer and more sustainable tomorrow.
Our knowledge and experience, across both engineering and manufacturing, stretches from providing damping solutions to high horsepower small marine craft, through static power generators of all sizes, to large/mega vessel main propulsion engines. Meaning our damper size range goes from dampers of 200mm diameter to over 5000mm diameter.
Viscous dampers are fitted to the front (free) end of most diesel engines to control torsional vibrations. The viscous damper is fitted to control the torsional vibrations developing in the crankshaft induced by the combustion process in the engine. By reducing oscillations in the crankshaft to a low amplitude, the viscous damper keeps the material stresses within permitted design limits and prevents premature failure of the crankshaft due to metal fatigue.
