Annual Current Trends in Shipping Review 2023
Yesterday was a significant day as the Society of Maritime Industries (SMI) hosted the Annual Trends in Shipping Review. This event is an essential cornerstone in the maritime industry's analysis.
The event started with an in-depth exploration of the current state of the shipping and seaborne trade markets. Attendees received insightful analysis, with a particular focus on the transformative 'Silk Alliance' green corridor cluster. These discussions provided a comprehensive understanding of the environmental impact and economic opportunities associated with the initiative.
Another significant aspect of the event was examining the ongoing decarbonisation efforts within UK Ports, aligning with the global push for sustainable practices. Speakers shed light on strategies, challenges, and implications.
Gordon Rankine, Chair of SMI PTG, expressed enthusiasm about having a room filled with expert speakers and knowledgeable individuals navigating the industry through challenging times and said:
I was thrilled to have had expert speakers and knowledgeable individuals in the room who could navigate us through challenging times in shipping. The insights and implications for port development in the coming year or two stand out as essential takeaways from the event.
The event's success was attributed to a panel of speakers who delivered engaging and compelling presentations. Industry professionals, including Trevor Crowe, Director at Clarksons Research, David Whittaker from Clarksons Research, Ahila Karan representing Lloyd's Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub, Ian Palacio, Business Development Manager at Portsmouth International Port, and Eleanor Toyer, Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator at Portsmouth International Port, showcased SMI's influence and commitment to advancing maritime engineering, science, and technology.
SMI PTG extended thanks to Clyde & Co for their hospitality and support, pivotal in ensuring the success of this annual gathering.
