Rivertrace signs Framework Agreement with HMD Shipyard Korea
Producers of water quality monitoring products Rivertrace, have signed a framework agreement with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) to supply their Oil Discharge Monitoring Equipment (Smart ODME) for new build ships.
The agreement signed in Q1 2020 covers the supply and installation of the Rivertrace Smart ODME on new build product carriers constructed at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan South Korea starting with a series of 8 x 50,000-ton product tankers with delivery dates ranging from June 2020 to November 2021.
The Smart ODME is designed to provide a means of monitoring, recording and controlling the ballast discharge in accordance with the requirements of MEPC 108 (49). Discharge limits are set at 30 litres per nautical mile, and the total discharge is expressed as a proportion of the previous cargo for dirty ballast. The Smart ODME includes all components required to meet MEPC 108(49) and is designed for ease of installation and maintenance.
In addition, the Smart ODME will also ensure reliable compliance to environmental legislation in line with both MEPC.108(49) as amended by MEPC.240(65). This addresses the requirement which came into effect on January 1st, 2016 for shipboard oil discharge monitoring systems to be capable of monitoring the discharge of biofuels and blends of biofuel and oil product cargoes.
The system is modular in construction and does not require the usual pump/motor bulkhead penetration as used on older systems. It is designed for ease of Installation, retrofitting, maintenance and operation including a ‘simulation mode’ to aid system demonstration to PSC surveyors.
Mike Coomber, Managing Director Rivertrace Limited, said:
“We are really proud that our Smart ODME has been selected to ensure compliance by one of the leading shipyards in South Korea, HMD. We are committed to continual research & development within our business ensuring our product range remains at the forefront of available technology consistently pushing the boundaries of oil-in-water analysis. We look forward to a long term working relationship where we can support HMD’s customer focused vision to deliver the highest quality and best value for their customers.”
