A&P Falmouth Hosts UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak During National Apprenticeship Week

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited A&P Falmouth on Thursday, February 8, as part of National Apprenticeship Week. Addressing A&P Falmouth's workforce in the Engineering Hall, Prime Minister Sunak emphasised the pivotal role of apprenticeships in shaping a skilled workforce. An engaging Q&A session followed, fostering direct communication between the Prime Minister, A&P employees, and apprentices.
The tour, led by A&P Falmouth executives David McGinley, Mike Spicer, and Drystan Jones, provided Prime Minister Sunak with insights into the organisation's ship repair and in-service support operations. A&P Falmouth, a part of the APCL Group, currently has 260 apprentices in training across the global shipbuilding and repair organisation.
The facility's significance extends beyond apprenticeships, playing a vital role in servicing the Royal Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and the commercial marine sector. Managing the Falmouth International Cruise Terminal and port facility, A&P Falmouth is integral to regional economic development.
Crucially, the site is part of an Enterprise Zone initiative, aligning with the government's goals for modernisation. This initiative aims to capitalise on emerging opportunities like floating offshore wind, contributing to sustainability and innovation in the maritime sector.Prime Minister Sunak's visit is a powerful acknowledgement of A&P Falmouth's role in advancing the maritime industry, creating jobs, and fostering a skilled workforce through apprenticeships.
Mike Spicer, Managing Director of A&P Falmouth, said: "A&P was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister at our facility today during National Apprenticeship Week. "At A&P, we firmly believe that apprentices are the future of our business, and it was fantastic to have the opportunity to showcase our apprentices and our wider workforce to the Prime Minister."
