New appointments at SMI - Director & Council Secretary and Marketing & Operations Manager
Emma Johnson and Anna Mcgown were welcomed by The Society of Maritime Industries’ Chief Executive Tom Chant.
Emma Johnson is the new Business Development Director and Secretary of the MASG and MSTG Councils. Emma has a BSc in Marine Biology and an MSc in Marine and Aquatic Biology from the University of Portsmouth. During the MSc a range of topics from Aquaculture to Subtidal Marine Ecology were covered. For her dissertation she worked with MDL Marinas and Blue Marine Foundation on the native oyster restoration project. For the last 3 years she has specialised in sales and marketing of Maritime products at Chelsea Technologies in particular compliance monitoring of wash water from exhaust gas scrubber systems and ballast water discharge. During this time, she worked closely with international agents and customers as well as representing the company at conferences, exhibitions and in presentations and panel debates.
Anna Mcgown is the new Marketing & Operations Manager. Anna is a marketing graduate with over 10 years marketing experience and has joined from a busy barristers Chambers. Her experience has included managing digital marketing campaigns, restructuring websites and managing social media strategy to raise profile and grow business. She will play a central role in the promotion and administration of SMI’s activities.

Emma is bringing her marine science knowledge and international business development experience to the benefit of our members and will play a crucial part in developing SMI’s marine science and autonomous systems groups.
