Liverpool John Moores University to Host 'Mastering Shipbuilding Management' Course in June 2024
SMI member Liverpool John Moores University is set to conduct a comprehensive 'Mastering Shipbuilding Management' course from the 24th to the 28th of June, 2024.
The course is designed to cater to the needs of both shipbuilders and shipbuilding customers/stakeholders. This educational initiative is a response to the increasing economic activity in shipbuilding and the evident demand for educational support that aligns with the objectives of the National Shipbuilding Strategy.
Visiting Professor Tony Graham said, "Liverpool John Moores University decided to launch the Mastering Shipbuilding Management course because of the economic boom in shipbuilding activity and the self-evident demand for educational events to support the aims of the National Shipbuilding Strategy. The ongoing revolution and scale of modern shipbuilding also give rise to high-risk developmental projects and very complex management tasks. Shipbuilders gain practical knowledge of shipbuilding management through working experience, often localised and constrained. The Mastering Shipbuilding Management Course will support attendees in understanding the wider shipbuilding market, management trends, technology developments and good practice migrating from other sectors."
The Mastering Shipbuilding Management Course aims to provide practical insights for attendees to understand the shipbuilding market, management trends, and technology advancements, drawing from best practices in other sectors. The course aims to broaden their perspectives by recognising that shipbuilders often acquire their practical knowledge through localised and constrained working experiences.
Educational activities and talks during the course will delve into key aspects aligned with the National Shipbuilding Strategy, including shipyard benchmarking, safety, environmental considerations, sustainability, and legislation. Furthermore, the course will cover management disciplines, technical aspects, and processes relevant to the evolving demands of the shipbuilding industry.
