Jo Bird Provide Roller Shutter Cabinets for Defence Contractor
After Babcock’s announcement of the steel cutting ceremony for the second Type 31e (HMS Active) in Rosyth a couple of months back, Jo Bird were delighted to receive more orders for the RS450FF
roller shutter cabinets from the well known defence contractor, Varivane in Devises, UK.
These cabinets are for the first five vessels of the class. Unlike the previous versions of the RS450s
which were for fire fighting equipment and damage control, these ones are for the first aid
equipment.

Picture shows how the RS450FF-Type A First aid locker looks like with the roller shutter door in the open position. The door coils up in the top of the cabinet so the crew aren’t impeded by having a conventional door in the way. This is especially helpful if the ship is listing and when space on a naval vessel is tight.
The truly composite (metal/ GRP construction), excellent IP rating and compact roller shutter door, provides a great balance of durability and light weight. Ideal characteristics for powerful, fast vessels such as frigates. The composite body is made with Lloyds approved gelcoats and flame retardant
resins.
The other versions of the RS450 are already in service with the Royal Fleet auxiliary and the Royal Navy.

The RS450s are just one of a large range of Jo Bird cabinets and products supplied to military vessels throughout the world.
