NSO Seeks Help to Transform the Skills Landscape of UK Shipbuilding

The UK government is in the process of establishing the Shipbuilding Skills Delivery Group (SDG) to implement the recommendations of the UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce. Following the publication of the Taskforce's report, 'A Step Change in UK Shipbuilding Skills,' and its accompanying toolkit for shipbuilding employers, the UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce has concluded its work, shifting focus to the practical execution of its recommendations.
The SDG is now being formed to oversee and advance the delivery of these recommendations, with the recruitment process for its membership currently in progress. The SDG's primary role is to sustain the progress initiated by the Taskforce, acting as a continuous advocate for shipbuilding skills within the sector.
Acknowledging the critical importance of a highly skilled workforce in driving innovation, increasing productivity, and enhancing global competitiveness in the shipbuilding industry, the UK government and industry partners are collaborating to address this priority effectively.
In response to the Taskforce's recommendations, the National Shipbuilding Office is actively seeking applications for the positions of chair and members for the newly established Skills Delivery Group. This initiative aims to ensure a focused approach to meeting the industry's skill requirements, promoting inclusivity, and supporting talent development.
With a concentrated focus on delivery, the SDG will engage with employers, governments across the Union, and educators nationally. The group's objectives include leveraging the UK skills system to meet industry needs, aiding in talent attraction, retention, and development, promoting equality and diversity, and preparing for future skill requirements in light of innovation and the transition to a net-zero environment.
