The Energy Efficiency Event – from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency

On November 29th at Portmouth Historic Docyard, the MCA Energy Efficiency Technology Showcase event will provide insights on the technology available now to help ship owners and operators reduce energy usage, and in turn reduce OPEX and emissions. The measures we’ll be discussing have the potential to help meet new EEXI regulations, could be retrofitted or used for new tonnage and all have an estimated return on investment time of less than five years and target savings of between 3% - 20%.
The event will include information on:
• Propulsion devices - including gate rudder, efficiency rudder and hub/boss fins.
• Electrification - hybridisation and/or use of shaft generators.
• Hull technology – including Hull Vanes, Antifouling and hull air lubrication.
• Deck mounted devices such as the rotor sail.
• Waste heat recovery – high and low temperature streams.
• The Human Element – how human behaviour in the maritime environment can impact your operation and energy efficiency/opex.
Applicable technology will vary by vessel type and it may be possible to fit more than one technology to a vessel. For this reason, an overview of the technologies and the vessel type applicability will be delivered in the morning session, allowing guests to spend the afternoon session speaking with developers of technologies they want to investigate further and seeing the innovations in action.
