The DBT Seeks Input from Vessel Manufacturers

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) actively seeks insights from the maritime industry, specifically targeting vessel manufacturers with specific import and export profiles. The DBT's outreach is aimed at two key groups within the industry.
Firstly, the DBT is interested in hearing from vessel manufacturers who import hulls as input for vessel manufacturing and export the completed vessels. This targeted inquiry aims to understand the intricate dynamics of businesses importing and exporting within the sector.
Secondly, vessel manufacturers that are connected to the Canadian market and may rely on the EU extended cumulation. The current agreement, which considers components from the EU as "originating" in goods traded between Canada and the UK, will expire on 1 April 2024. The DBT is interested in learning about the possible impact this may have on businesses that export to Canada and are affected by these changes.
This engagement initiative by the DBT serves a crucial purpose to enhance their understanding of the industry's requirements. As the UK continues to negotiate 'rules of origin' within Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), insights from vessel manufacturers will play a pivotal role in shaping these negotiations.
Vessel manufacturers looking to contribute to this important dialogue are encouraged to reach out to Graham Mulholland at graham.mulholland(at)businessandtrade.gov.uk or call 07741183448.
