Clyde Marine Training Secures Access to Europe’s Largest Maritime Simulator Hub

Clyde Marine Training (CMT) has strengthened its maritime training offering after its parent Company Northern Marine Group secured long-term access to a newly launched £2.5 million shipping simulation hub at City of Glasgow College – now the largest and most advanced facility of its kind in Europe.
As a key partner in the College’s investment, Northern Marine Group has supported the development of the simulator hub and entered into a five-year rental agreement for simulator space and resources.
This ensures that CMT will benefit from sustained access to the world-class marine simulation and training complex which includes a Bridge Simulation Suite, Full Mission Engine Simulator, Engine Control Room (ENS) Lab, LICOS lab and Engine Classroom.
Use of the facility greatly improves technology available in CMT’s current Marine Technical Training courses such as marine resource management, alternative and low flash point fuel training and advanced cargo handling training.
Philip Fullerton, Managing Director of Northern Marine Group, commented:
“Northern Marine Group is proud to support City of Glasgow College – a global leader in maritime training – in this significant investment.
“As ship management and marine services provider to some of the world’s leading ship owners, we are committed to developing highly skilled and competent seafarers who are equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving maritime industry.
“These ‘Best-in-Class’ simulators will provide our seafarers and Clyde Marine Training cadets and clients with access to cutting-edge technology, helping crews to operate the vessels of today, and adapt to the innovative ship types and fuels of tomorrow.”
The upgraded simulator hub expands the College’s provision from one 360° bridge simulator to three, and from five simulators in total to 13.
Northern Marine Group’s partnership ensures its crews and cadets are equipped with the skills needed to thrive in a dynamic and increasingly technology-driven maritime sector.
Dr Paul Little, Principal and CEO of City of Glasgow College, said:
“This pioneering investment places Glasgow and Scotland firmly on the world stage.
“City of Glasgow College’s shipping simulator hub is not only the largest and advanced in Europe, but it is also shaping the future of maritime training, ensuring that our cadets and partners are equipped with the skills, experience, and confidence to thrive in a rapidly changing and vital global industry.”
