BMT Appoints Jan Caers as Expert Marine Consultant

BMT, a global leader in marine incident, investigation, surveying, and consultancy, has announced the appointment of Jan Caers as Marine Consultant providing expert support for the marine surveys market in Belgium and Europe.
Jan brings a wealth of experience to his role, holding a master’s degree in Nautical Sciences from the Antwerp Maritime Academy. With an extensive 30-year career, including 11 years in seagoing roles and over 16 years managing dry and liquid bulk terminals in Antwerp Port, Jan's expertise spans a diverse spectrum of the maritime and terminal business development markets.
Dennis de Bruin, Managing Director for BMT’s Commercial Shipping Europe, expresses enthusiasm about Jan's appointment, stating, "We are delighted to welcome Jan into our Belgian business, where we are at the 'cusp' of unveiling some exciting business opportunities that are affiliated to Marine Incident Investigation Services in the nautical and cargo domains. Jan brings a wealth of experience gained in the shipping industry over many years and his presence is a real reinforcement of our team."
Jan's international experience, including over five years as the Port Operations Manager for Abu Dhabi Ports in Guinea, West Africa, adds a valuable dimension to BMT's global reach. His analytical skills, progressive ideas, and a 'no-nonsense' approach align seamlessly with BMT's commitment to excellence.
Commenting on the industry's changing landscape, de Bruin highlights, "We are excited to have Jan on board during a time of change in the industry when more focus is being applied to smart technologies, green shipping, and autonomous vessels."
Jan is eager to engage with clients across Belgian and European markets marine incident, investigation, and surveys in order to fully develop our reach in the field of cargo / nautical damage research. His goal is to support customers with improved capabilities and advice, fostering a highly complex consulting context that addresses technical solutions and transformation strategies.
Locally, this appointment aligns with BMT's strategy and growth plans in the Marine Incident Investigation market, supporting its presence in Belgium's rapidly growing and developing port of Antwerp. As one of Europe's fastest-growing regions for trade and employment, Antwerp offers a strategic hub for BMT's continued expansion.
