Biome Algae and Rockabill Marine Design Collaborate on Cutting-Edge Kelp Harvester

In a significant step towards sustainable marine resource management, Biome Algae, a leading innovator in sustainable aquaculture and algae farming, has announced a strategic partnership with Rockabill Marine Design. The collaboration aims to design a state-of-the-art 20-meter hybrid propulsion kelp harvester, showcasing Biome Algae's dedication to environmental responsibility and innovation.
Key Features of the Vessel:
The upcoming kelp harvester will be powered by an advanced hybrid propulsion system developed by Volvo/Danfoss, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions—a testament to Biome Algae's sustainability goals. Designed for optimal productivity, the vessel will boast an impressive 40-tonne per day harvesting capacity. Its 105 square meter working deck will allow for sustainable and eco-friendly kelp harvesting, minimizing environmental impact. Furthermore, the vessel's lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminum construction will maximize both durability and environmental compatibility.
Biome Algae's choice of Rockabill Marine Design as their partner stems from the firm's demonstrated understanding of Biome Algae's mission and their ability to meet technical requirements. Ruairi Grimes, Managing Director at Rockabill Marine Design, explained, "Being part of the CSO Marine Group, Rockabill Marine Design is able to draw on a wealth of industry knowledge, enabling us to take a holistic approach to design that perfectly complements Biome Algae’s vision for sustainable aquaculture operations."
Dr. Angela Mead, CEO of Biome Algae, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, "Our collaboration with Rockabill Marine Design reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability. We chose Rockabill for their exceptional ability to understand our business model and incorporate it into the vessel’s design seamlessly." She continued, "This partnership signifies a union of expertise, innovation, and a shared commitment to sustainability. Together with Rockabill Marine Design, we aim to set new industry standards in responsible kelp harvesting."
Advancing Responsible Aquaculture and Ocean Conservation:
The development of this hybrid propulsion kelp harvester underscores Biome Algae's mission to lead in responsible aquaculture, algae cultivation, and ocean conservation. By combining their expertise, Biome Algae and Rockabill Marine Design are poised to revolutionize kelp harvesting practices, setting new benchmarks in sustainability and environmental responsibility.
