Barrus enters the home standby generator market as the UK distributor for Briggs & Stratton
Barrus has partnered with Briggs & Stratton, the world’s largest producer of petrol engines for outdoor power equipment, and a leading designer and manufacturer of power generation equipment, to distribute Briggs & Stratton Home Standby Generator Systems in the UK.
The UK’s grid system has to balance supply and demand in varying weather conditions, which can cause volatility in supply. Increased volatility means an increased likelihood of power cuts. This was highlighted by a significant power cut across the UK in August 2019, causing 300,000 homes and businesses to lose power, affecting a total of 1 million people.
With today’s modern lifestyles relying on power for everyday essentials, the impact on consumers and businesses can be extremely disruptive and costly. Automatic standby generators offer worry-free protection providing a backup power solution when the power goes down.
In simple terms, a standby generator is permanently installed outside of the home or business by a licensed contractor and connected to the natural gas line or liquid propane providing continuous power in a power outage or blackout.
Continuously at the ready, the system senses when mains power goes down. Within seconds, the automatic transfer switch seamlessly transfers the electrical circuits and appliances to backup power. Once the generator senses that mains power is back online, power reverts to mains supply and the standby generator is shut down until needed the next time.
Barrus is offering two Briggs & Stratton Home Standby Generator models. The G80 generator is an 8 kW system, suitable for small to medium-sized homes, and the larger G140, 14 kW system is ideal for medium to larger homes and businesses. Both models are powered by Briggs & Stratton air-cooled commercial-grade engines for powerful, consistent performance, reliability and durability.
John Day, General Manager of the Industrial Engines Division at Barrus, commented:
“With power cuts occurring more frequently and our daily lives dependent on electricity, backup power is becoming increasingly important to protect our homes and businesses. Briggs & Stratton is a trusted brand, well-known for reliable engines and outdoor power equipment; we are looking forward to grasping this opportunity and developing and growing this area of business".
Briggs & Stratton Standby Generators will be available through Barrus appointed authorised dealers who will advise on model selection depending on the power requirement. Installation will be handled either by the dealer, if they have their own experienced engineers or by Total Electrical & Mechanical Solutions who have a team of fully certified installers around the country. A full site survey will be undertaken prior to installation and commissioning, and the units will require an annual service. The Briggs & Stratton comprehensive warranty of 3-years/1000 hrs, (commencing from the date of final commissioning) backs-up the commitment to deliver quality, reliable power.
