Balaena Ready to Deliver for Britain Following Defence Investment Programme

Balaena has welcomed today’s Defence Investment Programme, saying the Government’s plans represent a major opportunity for Britain’s shipbuilding communities and the skilled workforce that underpins the nation’s defence.
Chief Executive Simon Gillett said today’s announcement sends a strong signal that the Government intends to modernise and strengthen the country’s security through investing in British industry
“Today’s announcement is good news for our Armed Forces and for Britain’s shipyards, and for the thousands of skilled men and women whose expertise keeps our maritime industry at the forefront of naval engineering.”
"Through the announcement Government is signalling a significant change in how Britain’s defence and security will be secured, emphasising that the current methods of engagement are not sustainable. At Balaena, we welcome that change and are ready to play our part through innovative value-based engineering and commercial engagement, focused on delivering greater value for money for the taxpayer.”
“Our shipyards at Birkenhead, Tyne, Falmouth, Gibraltar and Padstow are agile, our workforce is exceptionally talented, and our management teams understand what it takes to deliver complex projects efficiently, everything that is required to help deliver a 21st century Hybrid Royal Navy.”
“We are committed to building and supporting naval vessels of whatever type on time and on budget, while creating high-quality jobs, investing in apprenticeships and supporting the next generation of designers, engineers, welders, fabricators and marine specialists.”
“Every defence contract awarded to British shipyards helps sustain local businesses, creates opportunities for young people and strengthens communities with proud industrial traditions.”
Balaena said today’s announcement demonstrates a commitment to providing our Armed Forces with the equipment they need, and a growing confidence in British manufacturing and engineering to provide that equipment. The announcement also demonstrates the Government’s intent to provide long-term investment in the UK’s maritime industrial base.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Government, the Royal Navy, suppliers and local communities to ensure the benefits of increased defence investment are felt throughout the regions in which Balaena operates.
