Babcock's Rosyth Facility Completes Upgrade od Northlink Ferry, MV Hamnavoe
Babcock International, the Aerospace and Defence Company has successfully completed the refit and upgrade of MV Hamnavoe, a NorthLink passenger ferry which runs between mainland Scotland and the Northern Isles of Orkney.
During a 13 day stay at Babcock’s Rosyth site, the team carried out a roll on roll off package of work on MV Hamnavoe as well as replacing the main engine and diesel generator funnels, valve overhauls, belting repairs and outer bottom and topside paint repairs.
The facilities at Rosyth carry a name synonymous with engineering excellence; making the site an ideal place for vessels such as NorthLink to return for annual dry docking and repairs.
MV Hamnavoe together with MV Hjaltland and MV Hrossey will return to Rosyth this quarter to undergo statutory inspections, general maintenance as well as painting and repair programmes.
Donna Maplesden, Project Manager for Commercial Marine at Rosyth, said:
“We were delighted to welcome MV Hamnavoe back to our extensive facilities at Rosyth. Four years ago, we started our journey with NorthLink ferries and our relationship continues to strengthen project by project. We look forward to working with the other NorthLink ferries in the coming weeks.”
Supporting this extensive package of work included a team of 50 specialists consisting of a project management team, pipe and mechanical fitters, slingers, electricians, fabricators and sub-contracts.
Graham McKenzie, Technical Manager for NorthLink Ferries, said:
“Since 2013 we have developed a very effective working relationship with Babcock at Rosyth, indeed this is the fifth time MV Hamnavoe has undergone survey work here. Responsiveness to our commercial requirements and focus on detail, linked to excellent transport distribution networks make for an ideal partnership.”
