SMI Annual Dinner 2023
The Society of Maritime Industries' Annual Dinner will be held on Thursday 30th November 2023 at One Great George Street, London SW1P 3AA.
The President's Reception commences at 19:00 with free flow sparkling wine. This will be followed by a seasonal three course meal at 20:00 in the Great Hall. A nearby 'After Party' will be included with your ticket, for those wishing to stay out later.
The speaker is Arjen Tjallema from The Ocean Cleanup. As Head of Technology, Arjen is responsible for the concept-level technology development for the Ocean Cleanup. He leads the R&D and Computational Modeling teams in developing, analysing, and testing technology to clean the oceans of plastic debris. Arjen Tjallema worked in the offshore for ten years before joining The Ocean Cleanup. Experienced in hydrodynamics, offshore moorings, dynamic positioning, and offshore installations, he has worked offshore on several projects to install mooring systems and CALM buoys and perform DP trials.
He joined The Ocean Cleanup in 2016 and worked on the Ocean technology development for over seven years. As a passionate sailor, Arjen is very driven to solve the issue of plastic pollution, and always after innovative technology to make clean oceans a reality. Arjen holds an MSc in Marine Engineering from Delft University of Technology.
This is an important maritime project cleaning up our Oceans and Rivers and reducing micro-plastics in the water, come and learn about their important work.
The Annual Dinner is as much a social occasion as for business so, spouses/partners are most welcome.
Given the popularity of previous dinners, members are urged to make their reservations early, as we take applications on a first come first served basis.
The dress code is black tie and cocktail/evening dress.
This event is exclusively for members of SMI and their guests.
