Company Information
Summary:
Warsash Maritime School is the only maritime training centre of its kind worldwide. It offers over 150 accredited deck, engineering, interior, maritime and offshore safety training courses approved by the MCA and other awarding bodies.
Deck (navigation), engineering and electro-technical officers benefit from our internationally recognised certification programmes, from initial entry as an officer cadet to Master and Chief Engineer.
Our 100+ maritime lecturers and technician instructors provide outstanding, hands-on professional development and our STCW safety training is delivered by experienced technical specialists.
In parallel with our teaching and training, and working closely with colleagues across Southampton Solent University, we also lead and contribute to cutting-edge research. Recent projects addressing employment, health and safety, gender and seafarer welfare have been widely received in the maritime industry. Current areas of research include decarbonisation, maritime autonomy, and digitalisation. We are proud to be a member of the UK National Clean Maritime Research Hub (UK-MaRes Hub) – a £21.3m national research partnership focussed on decarbonising the UK maritime sector.
We recently invested several tens of millions of pounds in new facilities including the UK's largest ship and port simulation centre (featuring Wärtsilä technology), new engineering workshops, an ETO lab, and at our manned model ship handling centre at Timsbury Lake - the only such facility in the UK, and one of only a few major centres in the world.

Labour Party Conference Signals a Maritime Shift
The maritime debate surrounding Labour Party Conference 2026 extended beyond the speeches delivered in Liverpool. As delegates gathered on Sunday 27 September, the Cabinet Office announced that the National Shipbuilding Office would oversee all future civil ship procurement across government; the following day, Chancellor John Healey used his conference speech to place major investment in British shipbuilding within his vision for a “new age of industrialisation”. Although the announcements came through different channels, together they pointed towards a more strategic approach to maritime capability, connecting procurement more explicitly with economic growth, national security and industrial resilience
