Somers Forge New Hirework Subcontract Services

Somers Forge are now offering not only hire work forging, but also subcontract heat treatment and machining.

With an unrivalled range of equipment in Europe, the global company has the capability to forge from a little as 1kg to 80 tonnes and machine up to 100 tonnes.  The new service will improve supply chains for local businesses whilst helping the environment. 

It is the first opportunity for subcontract machining on the largest horizontal deep hole borer in Europe, boring lengths up to 20m. The new services will offer huge benefits to manufacturers, giving customers more flexibility without the capital requirements and associated maintenance costs.

Somers are able to process a range of materials from Titanium, Super Alloys, Carbon Steels, Low Alloys, Stainless Steels, Nickel Alloys and Bronze alloys. With heat treatment now being offered as a subcontract service, this gives customers a wealth of metallurgical expertise to meet a wide range of international standards.  

Offering annealing, normalising, hydrogen diffusion, tempering, water quenching, oil quenching, stress relieving and post weld heat treatment methods.  The Somers machine shop is equipped with turning, milling, boring, drilling machines and sawing.

Somers Forge invested 2million last year on equipment and people to further improve capability, capacity and delivery. The company has seen a 15 % increase in the workforce in 2018, with this set to rise again this year. Best known for serving the defence industry, Somers are in 11 markets and have a facilities in both the UK and USA.
