The Marine Institute was inaugurated in 2006 to bring together, support and promote our marine and maritime expertise that is helping to provide practical solutions for a sustainable marine future. The Marine Institute aims to do this through an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to marine and maritime research, education and innovation.
Supported by over 400 project scientists, specialists and other University staff, the Marine Institute represents the broadest portfolio of expertise in Europe, providing a focus for Plymouth University’s reputation as an international leader in marine science, technology and business.
Our Marine Building welcomes clients to work on wave device testing, and other offshore and coastal engineering, in our ocean basin; our COAST (Coastal ocean and sediment transport) laboratory provides facilities for testing with combined waves, currents and wind. The main focus of the building is to provide world class research and training facilities and encourage new research and business opportunities.
