A Marintec China Case Study - Chelsea Technologies

This December, tens of thousands of maritime industry professionals will make their way to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre for Asia’s leading shipbuilding trade fair – Marintec China. The event will feature more than 2,000 exhibitors and is expected to attract around 65,000 visitors.

In order to support British companies attending or exhibiting at Marintec China, the UK government’s Department of International Trade in partnership with the Society of Maritime Industries (SMI) is making available a special package of support, including a specially designed UK Pavilion under the Exporting is GREAT brand.

EJ and Sea SentryAmong the British businesses exhibiting within the Pavilion is Chelsea Technologies, a designer and manufacturer of environmental monitoring technology. China is one of the firm’s most important markets, particularly for sales of its water monitoring systems.

Chelsea Technologies offers two main products for maritime sector clients. The first is their DNV-GL Type Approved Sea Sentry wash water monitoring system for ship exhaust gas scrubbers. This all-in-one solution monitors wash water from scrubbers before it’s discharged, allowing vessels to ensure they are complying with all relevant environmental regulations set down by the International Maritime Organization. The Sea Sentry system is suitable for both new build and retrofit installations.

Chelsea Technologies will also use Marintec 2019 to promote their portable ballast water monitor, FastBallast. The device allows for the rapid on-board testing of treated ballast water to ensure compliance with discharge standards and prevent the spread of harmful organisms through ballast water.

Sea Sentry Installation 2Emma Johnson, Maritime Manager at Chelsea Technologies, said:

“China is a particularly important market for our scrubber wash water monitoring systems, with many customers based in the country. As well as many potential and existing customers, we also have several agents attending, so we’ll be using Marintec as an opportunity to catch up with them. There is huge potential for growth across the whole of China due to the number of shipyards and the number of ships being built. It is already an  important market but we certainly see further opportunities for growth. Trade shows of this type are an ideal platform for promoting the UK and outlining to the rest of the world the range of skills and innovative products British companies have to offer.”
