Informative ports seminar at Hill Dickinson in London!

Members and non-members of the Society of Maritime Industries recently enjoyed this interesting and enjoyable seminar and networking event, which looked at some diverse but important ‘Aspects of Regulation’.

Denis Murphy, Group Security Manager at PD Ports Group considered Maritime Port Security Compliance by reviewing the implementation of the ISPS Code (The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) and the Port Security Regulations 2009 and their practical impact on the operation of the UK’s ports.

Nynke Venema, Environmental Management and Planning Team Leader at Mouchel explained what are ‘The Equator Principles”.  She then considered the nature and complexity of this risk management framework, for determining, assessing and managing environmental and social risk and the increasing importance of its principles to being able to successfully initiate and complete  port infrastructure developments around the world; in particular, those involving funding from  supra national financial institutions such as the International Finance Corporation and other major banks.

Brian Hawkins from the Marine Management Organisation’s Marine Licensing Team updated us on the new regime of licensing for navigational dredging which becomes effective on 6 April 2014.

MEMBERS of the Society are able to view copies of the presentations delivered in Member Zone. Please login and then click this link.
