Newcastle University | Newcastle Upon Tyne | NE1 7RU

Marine Technology is taught within the School of Engineering at Newcastle University.  There are currently around 350 students: 200 undergraduate studying for BEng and MEng, 50 postgraduates studying for MSc (and with a further 50 taking the part time MTEC degrees) and 50 research students predominantly studying for PhD.  The School offers degrees in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Subsea and Pipeline Engineering, Small Craft Design, and Marine Transport and Logistics. All courses are accredited for CEng status apart from the Marine Transport MSc, which students aim to charter with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Aims:

  1. To showcase opportunities in the UK’s thriving maritime sector.
  2. To provide opportunities for companies to meet and discuss with our prospective graduating students.
  3. To provide opportunities for continuing students to discuss work experience and summer placements.
  4. To increase student’s exposure to industry and to showcase the talent being nurtured by undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Newcastle.

Format:

  1. Tables will be available for companies to distribute literature and to talk to visiting students. Facilities are available for those wishing to bring more formal stands or demonstrations.
  2. A lecture room will be available for booking for those that would like to present to students (please let us know).
  3. A room will be available for booking for any that may want to have private conversations with students on the day (please let us know).
  4. A social networking event will follow the formal part of the day, to be organised by the Marine Technology Students’ Society (WetSoc). Offers to sponsor the catering for this event will be gratefully received.
  5. Students will be briefed on the event in class, along with careers briefings. The students’ timetables will be taken into account to enable different stages to visit at different times.
