National Marine Geospatial Workshop - Industry

UKHO

Tuesday 24 September | 1330-1700
Royal College of Defence Studies | Seaford House | 37 Belgrave Square | London | SW1X 8NS

In collaboration with BEIS, the UK Hydrographic Office has been directed by the Government’s Geospatial Commission to coordinate the creation of an evidence base and series of recommendations for them to consider in their forthcoming National Geospatial Strategy. With so many stakeholders in the UK’s rich maritime tapestry, we are keen that all have an opportunity to contribute.

Why does this matter to me and my organisation?

It is widely accepted that nearly all activities undertaken in the ocean rely on Marine Geospatial components. These activities stretch right from enabling shipping to the development of maritime autonomy; offshore energy and fisheries to environmental research; and legal delimitation to infrastructure planning. With the constant development of new technologies and the increasing reliance on our ocean to meet the needs of today’s fast-changing world, a coordinated approach from right across the UK’s diverse ocean industry is essential to ensure any new policies enable everyone.

The development of the National Geospatial Strategy is also timely; with initiatives such the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and the Government’s Foresight Future of the Sea Report, Maritime 2050 Strategy and forthcoming International Ocean Strategy; all create new opportunities for marine geospatial data (in all its forms) to inform sustainable ocean innovation, prosperity and environmental protection.

A chance to be involved. In collaboration with Policy Lab, we would like to invite you as an policy advisor, subject matter expert, user or interested stakeholder, to attend the Industry Geospatial Engagement workshop on the 24th September, in central London.

Please register your interest by emailing marine.geospatial@ukho.gov.uk by 13th Sept with your name, organisation and quote “Industry workshop”. If you are unable to attend let us know if you would like to be kept informed about other engagement opportunities.
