Port of Dover | Harbour House | Marine Parade

The Away Day is a valuable networking opportunity and an excellent way to gain an insight into the capability and organisation of one of the UK’s principal ports and to see it in operation.

The Port of Dover is Europe's busiest ferry port. It handles £122 billion worth of trade (17% of the UKs trade in goods); 2.5 million freight vehicle movements; 11.8 million passengers travelling in 2.2 million cars, on 80,000 coaches and on foot.

There are five commercial business areas in the port: The Ferry Terminal, Cargo Terminal, Cruise Liner Terminals, Commercial & Property Development and the Marina.

The ferry operations of DFDS and P&O Ferries offer a departure on average every 30 minutes. The cargo operations specialise in perishable freight with reefer vessels, trading mainly to South America, discharging 300,000 tonnes p.a. for distribution throughout the country. More than 125 Cruise ships call every year, which makes Dover the 2nd largest cruise port in the UK. It’s a very busy place. There will be lots to see.

The tour of the port will take in the ferry operation, the cargo terminal, the cruise liner terminals, a visit to the port control room and a tour of the £250 million marine civil engineering project that is the Dover Western Docks Revival project – the next exciting chapter for the Port of Dover.
