The annual Association of Marine Scientific Industries (AMSI) Business Person of the Year Award was today presented to Matthew Quartley, Managing Director of Valeport Limited, by Mr Richard Burt, Chairman of the AMSI Council, at a special award ceremony at Oceanology International 2010 in London’s ExCel.

Richard Burt said: “This award is designed to recognise the individual which in the opinion of the adjudicating panel has made a significant contribution to the business of marine science and technology. Matthew Quartley is an excellent example of the new generation of business people who are entering this dynamic industry and taking it to new heights. Since taking over from his father, Charles, in 2005 he has doubled turnover and through investment in R&D developed the technology to offer a perpetual warranty service on all their products.”

Mr Burt continued “a graduate of Southampton University, where he read Physiology and Pharmacology, disillusionment with medical sciences brought Matthew into the marine science community which was very much to the gain of the marine scientific industries”.
