Data Definitions
LR/IMO number Unique identifying number assigned by Lloyd’s Register – Faiplay Ltd to each ship at initial database entry. This number never changes, remaining with the ship throughout its active existence and beyond (after disposal, total loss etc.). These numbers are never re-assigned or re-used. This unique ship identifier is also used as the IMO (International Maritime Organisation) identification number. Manager The company responsible for the day to day decisions on the ship (bunkers, spares, crew, repairs etc.) and the best contact for the ship. This company is also responsible for purchasing decisions on marine products and port services. Gross tonnage The gross tonnage is broadly the capacity in cubic feet of the spaces within the hull, and of the enclosed spaces above the deck available for cargo, stores, fuel, passengers and crew, with certain exceptions, divided by 100. Thus 100 cubic feet of capacity is equivalent to 1 gross ton. It is used as a basic figure for the calculation of pilotage and towage dues, as well as dry-dock fees, and the base upon which certain insurance premiums are calculated. Net registered tonnage This is assumed to represent a measure of the ship’s freight earning capacity, and is the figure usually employed to assess port and light dues. Derived in accordance with the International Convention on Tonnage Measurement 1969, this figure is calculated by deducting from the gross tonnage, those spaces used for accommodation, navigation and the propulsion system. Deadweight The weight in tonnes (1000 kg) of cargo, stores, fuel, passengers and crew carried by the ship when loaded to her maximum summer loadline. UNCTAD code The United Nations code assigned to the port. |
