British Marine Equipment Association (BMEA) NewsTrade Access Programme (TAP)
UKTI have following substantial lobbying, made the TAP funding much more attractive to SME’s
Fundamentally, those companies who did not pass the ‘new-to-export’ rules will now be able to take part in exhibitions provided they are ‘new-to-the-market’. Eligible SME’s will be subject to the lifetime limit of three grants that applies to the TAP scheme. Pre-April 2006 event grants are not fortunately counted.
As well as introducing ‘new-to-market’ rule, they have also greatly extended the range of ‘emerging markets’ identified as priorities for UKTI as a whole. Up until now, the emerging markets identified were primarily China, Hong Kong, India and Taiwan.
Just added to this list are: Arabian Gulf States, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Also Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam.
Based on the ‘new-to-market’ rule, many experienced SME’s will be eligible for TAP grants for the forthcoming BMEA exhibitions in India – India Shipping Summit, 10th – 11th October 2006 and the Dalian World Maritime Fair, Shiport China, 25th – 28th October 2006. Copies of the BMEA flyers on these two events can be obtained by emailing
BMEA@maritimeindustries.org. Please book as soon as possible to take advantage of the ‘new-to-market’ grant of £1,800, bearing in mind, that there is a 2 month cut-off date for application of grants, prior to the October events.
