The recent publication of the government’s National Shipbuilding Strategy heralds the potential resurgence of shipbuilding in various UK shipyards.

It will therefore become ever more important for the UK maritime industry supply chain to be fully aware of the capabilities of the UK shipyards around the country. To this end a series of shipyard visits is being arranged so that companies can thereby become acquainted with the infrastructure that has been developed in each shipyard as well as its current and future programme of work.

The first visit will be to Cammell-Laird Shipbuilders and Ship-repairers in Birkenhead and will include a tour of the yard to view progress on the polar research vessel, the Sir David Attenborough, under construction at the yard.

PROGRAMME FOR THE VISIT

The visit will start at the Maritime & Engineering College North West, located adjacent to the shipyard, with an introduction by the shipyard management on the current and future programme of work in the yard.

Thereafter there will be a light networking buffet lunch which will provide an opportunity for informal discussions with shipyard officials.

This will be followed by a tour of the shipyard in small groups and there may subsequently be an opportunity for private face-to-face dialogue with procurement and technical managers.

PARTICIPATION

The visit will take place on Wednesday 15 November 2017 and industry delegates are invited to register from 1100 at the Maritime & Engineering College North West, in Birkenhead adjacent to the Cammell-Laird shipyard. The presentation on the shipyard work programme will start at 1130.

Industry representatives, especially from SMEs, who are involved in the many aspects of shipbuilding supply chains, procurement, marketing products and services, are strongly urged to attend.

PRICE

The price per delegate for participation in the visit, including refreshments and the networking buffet luncheon is £125 + VAT (Total £150).

A discount is available for members of the Society of Maritime Industries and government employees who pay £75 + VAT (Total £90).

Space is limited and the visit is likely to be oversubscribed. You are therefore invited to apply early.

The cut-off date for receipt of all applications is: Friday 3 November 2017.
